My computer wont start up?

I got a desktop. when i turn it on i get the HP display with the options to reboot or systerm recovery then the monitor just goes black and i get a underscore flashing at the top. nothing happens after that. i never modified the motherboard. i tried turning it on with just the ps and mobo.(without any ram). and i just hear two short beeps and one long beep. please help!!
