How do I cover a darker shade of green acrylic paint with a lighter shade?

I am painting a turtle and used hunter green for the head, legs and tail, but it's so dark that I can't see my black outlines. I want to cover it with jubilee green which is a better choice. Do I paint the hunter green with white first or do I just keep adding layers of jubilee green?
